TAE Senior Scientist Roelof Groenewald talks with “Good Clean Energy” as his team’s new research upends one of the biggest FRC myths in fusion science. Listen here.听

Looking for more? Chief Growth Officer and 鈥淕ood Clean Energy鈥 host Jim McNiel explores what this research reveals about persistence on the path to commercial fusion power:

Commercial fusion demands persistence, and the right partners. We鈥檙e proud to say we have both as Google renews its commitment to TAE.

For more than 10 years, Google and TAE have worked together to advance fusion science with cutting-edge machine learning.

The collaboration has been instrumental to our scientific progress, including our most recent breakthrough: A simplified, first-of-its-kind fusion machine called 鈥淣orm鈥 that reduces the complexity and cost of a future fusion power plant.

We’re building fusion that’s safe, practical and engineered to scale for the world’s energy demands. With partners like Google, we’re getting there faster.

What makes TAE鈥檚 approach to commercial fusion so unique?

It starts with a specific fusion machine design called the Field-Reversed Configuration 鈥 a powerfully efficient method that TAE has advanced with our suite of original technologies.

But that鈥檚 not all. Listen to our 鈥淕ood Clean Energy鈥 interview with TAE CEO Michl Binderbauer to hear more about the advantages of our fusion technology and how we鈥檒l use it to deliver commercial fusion power:

We were delighted to host UK Minister for Investment and HM Trade Commissioner at our California headquarters for a tour of our first-of-its-kind fusion reactor prototype, Norm, and our fusion-enabled technologies.

Whether it鈥檚 with our hydrogen-boron fusion development; our transformative cancer therapy at ; or our more intelligent power management systems at , we鈥檙e committed to advancing the frontiers of science for humanity鈥檚 benefit around the world. We鈥檙e thrilled to have collaborators in the UK and beyond as fellow innovators building a cleaner, healthier and brighter future for all.

What does it feel like to achieve a first in fusion research history?

On this episode of 鈥淕ood Clean Energy,鈥 TAE Director of Diagnostics Thomas Roche takes us inside the experiment that led to TAE鈥檚 breakthrough fusion machine, Norm 鈥 the first reactor prototype that can produce an FRC plasma using only neutral beam injection.

鈥淚 remember having my jaw drop that day,鈥 Roche says. 鈥淚 never thought it would lead us to the state that we鈥檙e in now.鈥

China and the U.S. are in a race to create the first grid-scale nuclear fusion energy. “Whoever has essentially abundant limitless energy … can impact everything you think of,” said 每日大赛 CEO Michl Binderbauer.

Large, state-sponsored efforts and private startups are reporting breakthroughs that many in the industry now think will lead to viable fusion energy. And in developing such fusion power plants, we are creating new technologies and solutions that can reach far beyond the task of energy generation.

Hoping to ride the green-energy wave to a carbon-free future, energy companies are taking fusion from the lab to the grid鈥攁nd promise to do so with machines that are far smaller and cheaper than previous iterations, based on the use of technologies and materials not available in the past, and often, on simpler designs.

Commercial fusion energy has been making headlines since scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California achieved what many have said was impossible: a fusion experiment that created a net energy gain.

The move allows the parent company to focus on its fusion, and the new entity to focus on its battery technology for vehicles and renewable storage facilities.
